Shortly after launching its Tatsuta Chicken Burger range, McDonald’s Japan has returned with a pair of variations that use rice for buns.

The Rice Chicken Tatsuta and Rice Chicken Tatsuta Setouchi Lemon Tartar feature rice-buns made from domestic rice. After being cooked, the rice is shaped and seasoned with a fragrant soy sauce before being broiled for a crispy outer layer.

The unique crunchy exterior and fluffy interior rice-buns sandwich a fried chicken fillet flavored with ginger and soy sauce on a bed of crisp shredded cabbage and creamy, spicy sauce. The Rice Chicken Tatsuta Setouchi Lemon Tartar variation is finished with grated lemon from the southern Setouchi region and a helping of pairing tartar sauce.

Part of the chain’s “Yoru Mac” (“Night Mac”) campaign, the burgers will be available from 5:00 p.m. until 4:59 a.m. at 24-hour branches every day.

Priced at ¥440 and ¥470 JPY (approximately $4.20 and $4.50 USD), the Rice Chicken Tatsuta and Rice Chicken Tatsuta Setouchi Lemon Tartar and traditional bun Tatsuta range will be available at McDonald’s Japan locations from January 27 until the end of February.
