Happy New Year HYPEBEAST footwear family! Hope you all had time to relax and unwind during the holidays and safely ring in the new year with your loved ones. Of course with a fresh batch of 365 days comes even more sneaker launches, and imprints such as Jordan Brand, New Balance, adidas and more have cooked up a healthy assortment of new releases. This week we’re seeing the third installment of the UNDEFEATED x Nike Air Max 97 capsule, an adidas ZX 5000 inspired by Jacquard in France and much more. However, before we talk about the 10 best drops this week, let’s dive into the footwear hoopla that emerged last week.
HYPEBEAST’s Sole Mates series continued with FACETASM’s very own Hiromichi Ochiai last week, and the topics covered included that of his Jordan Why Not Zer0.4 collaboration, the sneaker scene in Japan and more.
In terms of the day-to-day news, there were definitely some notable footwear moments that popped up. For example, Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse all revealed footwear plans for the forthcoming “Chinese New Year” celebrations and YG’s new 4Hunnid Block Runner sneaker stirred up some conversations for its close similarities to the Nike Cortez. Why You Should Cop: Longtime collaborators UNDEFEATED and Nike have come together to roll out a third Air Max 97 collaboration. For this colorway, the two parties unofficially pay homage to UCLA’s newest inked deal with Nike INC. The low-profile Sportswear staple gets dressed up with stark white backdrops and integrates notes of Bruin-esque aero blue and midwest gold accents sprinkled on the center overlays and tongues. Down below, the kicks finish with gum-colored treading to usher in some lifestyle-centric flair.
