adidas Originals' New Forum Communicator Mid Looks to Chinese Inventions for Inspiration
Featuring an asymmetrical design, Chinese typography, straps, tags, and many other finishing touches.

Earlier this week adidas Originals‘ Chinese New Year-celebrating sneakers begun to surface, with this embossed Superstar taking the limelight: until now. Today, the Three Striped brand has unveiled its latest masterpiece dubbed the Forum Communicator Mid.
Essentially, the sneaker is a Forum Mid with all its bells and whistles turned up to 11. For example, the white leather base is contrasted with white canvas on the toe box, tongue, and mid-panels, while Trefoil branded clips on the mid-panel give the shoe a utilitarian edge.
The straps are actually inspired by China’s industrial innovations, with the tags on the lower-mid section, straps, and tongue branding looking like shipping containers or packaging. Typographic printing formed using clay has also been incorporated on the shoe, taking form as a lace lock finished with more Chinese characters.
Furthermore, the shoes are somewhat asymmetrical. The strap wraps around the shoe and points downwards on the lateral side, while the right foot has been given a piece of red heel embroidery in contrast to the plain heel on the left foot. Other details include more industrial motifs found on the outsole, which can be seen through the icy and semi-transparent midsole construction.
adidas Originals’ Forum Communication Mid can be seen above and is available to purchase on websites such as atmos Tokyo, where it retails for ¥ 17,600 JPY (approx. $170 USD). Take a closer look at the unique pair above.
