Spillage Village Cuts Through the Chaos on New Album 'Spilligion'
Featuring Chance The Rapper, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, Masego and Buddy.
Supergroup Spillage Village, consisting of EARTHGANG, JID, Mereba, 6LACK and more have delivered their latest album Spilligion, a 12-track offering full of biblical allusions and high-profile features that flawlessly blends hip-hop with R&B and touches of gospel throughout. It was recorded entirely during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Spilligion is the fourth installment of the group’s collaborative efforts following Bears Like This in 2014, Bears Like This Too in 2015 and Bears Like This Too Much in 2016. The collective kicked things off with “End of Daze” that was as prescient as ever given the current state of the world. “Baptize” was accompanied with a music video directed by Caleb Seales with EARTHGANG and JID attending church and seeking refuge in the woods. “Hapi” introduced listeners to the group’s latest addition, Beji, with a spoken word interlude by Big Rube of Dungeon Family fame.
The guest-list packs some serious star power too. “Judas” enlists Chance The Rapper, Ari Lennox, Masego and Buddy. Lucky Daye also joins 6LACK on “Cupid.” Even with the numerous voices and creative inputs, the album proves to be a soulful, cohesive and timely effort that speaks on just how much history can repeat itself.
