Run The Jewels Will Perform 'RTJ4' Live on Adult Swim to Encourage Voter Registration (UPDATE)
Adult Swim’s first ever concert broadcast has been rescheduled to October 17.
UPDATE (October 1, 2020): Run The Jewels have rescheduled their Holy Calamavote Adult Swim televised concert, moving the date to October 17. The announcement was made to align with strict coronavirus screening guidelines. The good news is, everyone involved has tested negative for COVID-19, and the delay has also created the opportunity to have more featured guests involved.
Now Mavis Staples, Zack de la Rocha, Josh Homme and Eric Andre will be participating in the event, created to encourage voter registration for the upcoming 2020 U.S. Presidential Election. Eric Andre is also acting as the event’s official Master of Ceremonies. Stay tuned for more updates and read the original story below.
ORIGINAL STORY (September 22, 2020): Tomorrow, the United States celebrates National Voter Registration Day in an effort to raise awareness and get as many eligible voters to participate in the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election as possible. In honor of that initiative, Run The Jewels announce that they will be partnering with Adult Swim and Ben & Jerry’s for Adult Swim’s first-ever live music performance broadcast on October 10.
Dubbed Holy Calamavote, Run The Jewels members Killer Mike and El-P will be performing their latest record RTJ in its entirety through a commercial-free broadcast. Back in June, RTJ4 released days early to best align with the nationwide protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. (For more on that record, visit HYPEBEAST’s “25 Best Albums of 2020… So Far” feature.)
“We’re proud to be a part of this initiative to encourage and enable voting and can’t wait to finally perform our album RTJ4. This will be fun,” said Killer Mike detailed of the concert in a recent press release.
“With people marching in the streets around our country, it couldn’t be more clear that justice is on the ballot this November,” said Jabari Paul, the US Activism Manager at Ben & Jerry’s said. “Young people are the single largest block of voters, and if they turn out at the same rate as their parents, they have the power to hold elected officials accountable on issues like policing and public safety, climate change, education, jobs and the economy. That’s why we are proud that Run The Jewels is helping spread that word and we’re pleased to be working with Adult Swim to make this exciting night happen.”
The televised broadcast will be simultaneously streamed on AdultSwim.com. Immediately after the telecast, the performance will be available to view on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel with the chance to donate to the ACLU.
