Rico Nasty's New "Own It" Music Video Is a Call to Embrace Yourself
Her next album ‘Nightmare Vacation’ is on the way.
Rico Nasty‘s Nightmare Vacation project, her highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s Anger Management collaboration with Kenny Beats, is almost here. Today we get one step closer as Rico delivered her new music video and single, “Own It” — and it is one crazy ride.
Rico’s signature out-of-this-world styling is as amplified as ever. Director Philippa Price captures the surreal scenes through fish-eye camera lenses reminiscent of 1990s Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott visuals while the track comes with a positive message of self-acceptance.
Back in August, Rico released her collaboration with 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady in “iPhone” and dropped off “Dirty” in June. She also teamed up with Kali Uchis for “Aquí Yo Mando”. Rico kicked off the year with a stream of solid loosies too, first with the New Year’s Resolution “IDGAF” and then by telling her haters’ boyfriends to stop hitting on her in “Popstar”.
Rico wrote a letter to her fans about “Own It” and the song’s themes of acceptance and self-love. Read below.
Dear Nasty Mob,
The next song is I’m dropping is different in every way to me! The beat, the vibe, the video. But this song was built upon owning yourself. The good, the bad and the ugly. Zoom in on the things that make you who you are! Embrace yourself. Lift yourself up at all times. I want to show you guys inspiration is all around yo MF eyes! This song makes me feel like such a baddie and this is one of my most favorite music vids. Shout out to everyone who was a part of this one. Nightmare Vacation is on the way. In the meantime, enjoy!
