PJ Tucker's Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE Will Receive a Full Retail Release
The NBA sneaker king’s colorful style is coming to a Nike Basketball stockist near you.
After DeMar DeRozan’s zebra-printed iteration released earlier in the month, Nike Basketball has readied another PE take on the Kobe 5 Protro: a wildly-colored version for PJ Tucker. Almost universally regarded as the NBA‘s sneaker king, Tucker has taken the court in everything from Houston Rockets teammate Russell Westbrook‘s unreleased Air Jordan 16 “Why Not?” to the Air Ship Pro “Banned,” but this Kobe 5 Protro marks Tucker’s first real “signature” sneaker.
Made mostly of seamless synthetic materials, the upper’s base layer is split between dark gray quarters and toeboxes plus cream overlays. Both are awash in reptilian texture: the former uses a croc print, the latter a slithering snakeskin-style pattern. Heels are bright in color, mixing rich red and regal purple tones behind a black TPU clip embellished with Kobe Bryant‘s signature. Sail Swooshes add black dotted details, Kobe’s signature sheath logo is done up in black on the tongue to contrast the purple trim and forefoot vibrance is supplied by neon yellow laces/a powder blue toe cap. Down below, soft foam midsoles use sizable Zoom Air cushioning units to provide responsive cushioning.
Expect PJ Tucker’s Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE to release at retailers like Nice Kicks on September 25. The MSRP is set at $180 USD.
