'Powerpuff Girls' Is Getting a Live-Action Adaptation on CW

According to a new report from Deadline, the iconic Cartoon Network series The Powerpuff Girls is now getting a live-action TV adaptation.

The new series will be created by Greg Berlanti, who co-created the Arrowverse on CW, and will air on the same network, while Juno‘s Diablo Cody and Veronica Mars‘ Heather Regnier will be writing the script. Instead of simply rebooting the franchise, the upcoming series will focus on Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as they go through their 20s after their life as superheroes has ended. Now dealing with the intense responsibilities they had during their childhood, the three girls have to come together once again to save the world.

For those unfamiliar, The Powerpuff Girls originally debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998. The animated series was created by Craig McCracken and followed the superhero lives of three sisters, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, who were made in a lab by Professor Utonium, who subsequently becomes their father. During the process of creating them with a mixture of “sugar, spice, and everything nice,” the Professor accidentally spilled in “Chemical X,” which gave the three little girls their superpowers.
