Last week, Dallas Contemporary announced its plans to reopen to the public on January 30, 2021. Ahead of the major solo Yoshitomo Nara exhibition that will coincide with the museum’s opening, Dallas Contemporary is releasing a never-before-seen print by the Japanese artist called Real One. This is the first release of 1,000 prints of an open edition.

Measuring 25 by 29 inches, the print depicts one of Nara’s big-headed children holding onto a teddy bear in one hand and scissors in the other. A small skull barrette adorns her hair, while she smiles wickedly at the open pair of scissors. Like other Nara works, the potentially dangerous object in the child’s hand contrasts with her small size and childish innocence. The sale of this print will directly benefit Nara’s upcoming exhibition slated to open next year and Dallas Contemporary’s mission to present contemporary art to the public for free.

The print will launch on Dallas Contemporary’s new online store today at 1 p.m. EDT for $350 USD. The same image will be available as a 15-by-17-inch print in January at the museum once the exhibition opens.
