Almost immediately after delivering official imagery of HOMME PLUS‘ Nike Air Carnivore collaboration, COMME des GARÇONS has returned with another set of bespoke sneakers. This time, its SHIRT sub-label is delivering a closer look at its Spring/Summer 2021 ASICS TARTHER and Winjob CP303 collaborations.
ASICS’ TARTHER sneaker is an obscure running sneaker that enjoys some popularity in Japan; it’s essentially an update to 1983’s sleek Tiger Racer with some updated technology and detailing. COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT opts for some retro color-blocking and speckled textures atop its cotton panels, offered in slightly different navy tones. Each colorway retains identical white, black and gold accents, complete with “TARTHER” text on the heel, co-branding on the tongue and more speckling on the sole.
Even more obscure than the TARTHER, ASICS’ Winjob CP303 is a sneaker designed for kitchen staff, complete with a velcro strap in place of laces. Chinese artist Yue Minjun graces the toebox with one of his signature pink smiling figures, enlivening the otherwise understated white sneaker with graphic flair. Off-white accents lend gentle contrast to the paler strap and forefoot, matching the translucent slip-resistant outsole.
Expect COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT’s ASICS TARTHER collaboration to launch at stockists like global Dover Street Market outposts in February 2021, the Winjob CP303 is expected to follow in April.
Elsewhere, ASICS acknowledged the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics with its “Multi Crossing” Pack.
