A Life-Size Freedom Gundam Statue to Be Built in Shanghai
Bringing the iconic unit from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam Seed’ to life.
During the recent Gundam G Meeting 2020 event for the Gundam China Project, animation studio and production company, Sunrise, announced that it will be building a Gundam statue in Shanghai, China to be unveiled in 2021.
Set to be the first overseas Gundam statue, the “Life-Size Gundam Statue Project” will see a 59-foot-tall representation of the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam mobile suit in front of the Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Jinqiao. The Freedom Gundam was piloted by protagonist Kira Yamato midway through the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed anime series. It is unclear if the Freedom Gundam will feature movement capabilities like the RX-78-2 Gundam statue to be unveiled in Yokohama or be relatively stationary like the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam replica in Odaiba, Tokyo.
