Tee Grizzley Targets Police Brutality With Powerful Anthem "Mr. Officer"
Featuring Queen Naija and members of the Detroit Youth Choir.
As protests continue across the country following the death of George Floyd, Tee Grizzley has shared a new song titled “Mr. Officer” featuring Queen Naija and members of the Detroit Youth Choir. The powerful anthem sheds light on the police brutality and racial injustice Black communities face.
The song begins with a series of pleading questions from Queen Naija. “Mister Officer, Mister Officer/Y’all are killin’ us, Mister Officer,” she sings. “What if that was my brother?/What if that was my dad?” “They put that badge on and feel like they better than us/Right now, it’s seemin’ like they job is to make it tragic for us,” Tee Grizzley follows up. “Crazy part about it, it only happen to us/They brought us here against our will, now they ain’t happy with us.”
“I got a million experiences I can touch on in my music, but I couldn’t make another song without speaking on what’s going on,” he says of his new song. “I’m not a politician or activist but right now it’s everybody’s job to speak up because the pain, the struggle for equality and the brutality is real.”
