Sun Ra Arkestra Announce First Album in 20 Years With "Seductive Fantasy" Visual
The collective continues on after Sun Ra’s death in 1993.
The legacy of Sun Ra continues on. The iconic American experimental jazz pioneer and synthesizer player passed away in May 1993, but the collective that he founded, the Sun Ra Arkestra, has returned with a new music video for “Seductive Fantasy.” They’ve also announced their first project in 20 years since debuting 1999’s Song for the Sun will release later this year. The name and date are yet to be announced.
“Seductive Fantasy” is an entirely new take on the 1979 composition On Jupiter and comes with an accompanying visual helmed by Chad Van Gaalen. The Sun Ra Arkestra was founded in the mid-1950s and is know championed by 96-year-old alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, who has led the group since Sun Ra’s passing in 1993. They most recently opened for Solange during her 2017 tour.
