PORTER Joins Maehara Kouei Shouten for Traditional Umbrellas
Umbrellas used by the Imperial family of Japan.
Set for the rainy months ahead, PORTER has joined with Japanese umbrella manufacturer Maehara Kouei Shouten for a set of folding umbrellas. Known for its high quality, handmade construction, Maehara Kouei Shouten has been making umbrellas since 1948 in Tokyo, and its umbrellas have been used by a number of high-profile individuals including the royal family.
For this collection, PORTER‘s signature TANKER material in olive and a special COVER PS CHIP CAMO pattern were used as the main canopy of choice. The fabric is then treated to a number of processes including wax dyeing and stretching. The premium umbrellas are finished with natural handles and eight pillars of structural strength. As a final detail, the folding umbrella comes with a matching cover for storage, and are stamped with Maehara Kouei Shouten’s trademark badge.
Priced at ¥17,000 JPY (approximately $158 USD), head over to Yoshida Kaban to view the entire collection. Those in Japan can find the collection releasing in store at PORTER OMOTESANDO the PORTER Gallery 2 and PORTER OSAKA the PORTER Gallery 3.
