Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington and 9th Wonder Form Supergroup, Share "Freeze Tag"
The four veterans will be releasing a project together on July 10.
It’s not every day you run into a supergroup as exciting as Dinner Party. The new band is the project of Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder, all of which have become titans of the soul, jazz, and rap music worlds. Revealing that they have a self-titled album ready to drop in the coming weeks, Dinner Party has shared their first single, “Freeze Tag.”
The track, which features Chicago singer Phoelix, is as good as it gets from the four veterans. Sun-drenched melodies, soul-injected grooves, and an easygoing vocal from Phoelix make the track a summer anthem. The song equally highlights Black experiences with police brutality and racism:
They told me put my hands up behind my head/I think they got the wrong one/I’m sick and tired of runnin’/I been searchin’ where the love went/I been lookin’ for a dove/Then they told me if I move, they gon’ shoot me dead
