As theaters begin to reopen after being forced to close due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit Jurassic Park is once again the number one movie in North America once again earning $517,000 USD last weekend.

Over the Father’s Day weekend nearly 1,100 theaters were open for business and screened a mix of late winter releases and classic films. 27 years later, Jurassic Park stood at number 1 and Jaws at number 2, while Back to the Future and E.T. took the bottom spots of the top 10 listing. If the current movie release landscape remains the same, Spielberg’s celebrated classic could remain on top for quite some time.

Jurassic Park originally released back in 1993 with an impressive opening-weekend gross of $47 million USD and a theatrical run that lasted over a year and a half. Following a $912 million USD initial release gross, a 2013 3D re-release added another $118 million USD.

In case you missed it, Netflix recently released a trailer for its Unsolved Mysteries reboot.
