Claire Tabouret Explores the Familial Relationship in "Siblings" Exhibition
Creating a body of work based on “real people” for the first time.

French artist Claire Tabouret is currently displaying new portraits in an exhibition called “Siblings” at Perrotin Seoul. Tabouret is known for her figurative paintings, drawings and sculptures that explore identity, childhood, and human experiences.
For her latest presentation, the artist created a series of portraits that are based on “real people” for the first time with works that portray her own brother and a snapshot of a Victorian family she found in a thrift shop. With these figurations, the artist wants to show the importance of community and remaining connected while people might be separated from friends, family, and lovers during quarantine.
“Tabouret’s gestural, fluid paintings depict figures floating in imaginary, mystical landscapes with an air of the uncanny. The people are recognizable but the narratives elude us. Illuminated by neon underlayers, her subjects glow from within as we are drawn into the artists’ subjectivity,” said the gallery in a statement.
