Following The Roots‘ 2020 digital Picnic event, emerging Los Angeles brand Brownstone has been recruited to commemorate the event with a bespoke T-shirt design. Two colors of the shirt are available for a limited time, offering fans a tangible way to connect with the virtual festivities.
On the rear of the shirts, Brownstone have taken what it dubs a “Maximum Minimalism” approach to design, centralizing stylized imagery around the heads of Roots co-founders Black Thought and Questlove. These include a nod to Roots Picnic 2020 co-host Michelle Obama’s “When We All Vote” initiative, placed above a long quote from the album liner of Funkadelic’s immortal Maggot Brain. The top of the tee includes the date and details of 2020’s digital Roots Picnic, while the bottom is laden with Brownstone and When We All Vote URLs and logos, mirroring the abbreviated branding on the T-shirt’s chest.
The T-shirts are exclusively available from June 27 to July 4 via The Roots’ web store.
Elsewhere, a collective of Black-owned Dutch brands came together for their own charitable T-shirt.
