Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know?" Music Video Surpasses 1 Billion YouTube Views
Making them one of less than 12 rock groups to join the 1 billion club.
Arctic Monkeys released their GRAMMY-nominated single “Do I Wanna Know?” exactly seven years ago on June 18, 2013, and today, the track’s animated music video hit a major milestone with 1 billion views on YouTube.
According to sources, “Do I Wanna Know?” is one of less than 25 videos to surpass the 1 billion mark, and is one of less than 12 rock groups to hit that number. The accompanying visual, which featured AM‘s popular sound wave cover art, was directed by David Wilson (also known for his work with Tame Impala, Arcade Fire and Chromeo) and animated by Blinkink, and is undeniably one of the defining music videos of the early to mid-2010s.
The band joins the 1 billion group alongside Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson‘s “Uptown Funk,” Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry” and Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain.”
AM is the English band’s most commercially successful album to date. “Do I Wanna Know?” gave them a GRAMMY nod for Best Rock Performance, while the 12-track LP was up for the Mercury Prize and won them the BRIT Awards for British Group and British Album of the Year.
Elsewhere in music, Beyoncé and JAY-Z have been hit with a lawsuit over their track “Black Effect.”
