Mountain from 'GoT' Breaks 501kg Deadlift Record, Proceeds to Sign Seven-Figure Fight Deal
Set to square off against previous 500kg deadlift record holder, Eddie Hall.
Over the weekend, Hafthor Bjornsson, aka the Mountain from Game of Thrones, dethroned UK’s Eddie Hall for heaviest deadlift at 501kg (1,104 lbs). Hall has owned the title for world’s heaviest deadlift since 2016, and has also competed alongside Bjornsson in a number of World’s Strongest Man competitions.
After accomplishing the feat, Bjornsson went on to announce that he had just signed a seven-figure contract with Core Sports, and that his first event with the company would be to fight Eddie Hall. The fight makes sense as the two have had beef spanning back to 2017 when Hall won first place in the World’s Strongest Man competition; a title that Bjornsson still feels he was robbed of. To further the animosity, Hall voiced his strong objections towards the record as it took place at The Mountain’s home gym and not in competition with official judges.
There are currently no details on when and where the fight will take place, and at what weight. As it stands, Hafthor will have the advantage in terms of height and reach as he stands at 6’9” versus Hall’s height of 6’3”.
