deadmau5 and The Neptunes Unveil Collaborative Single "Pomegranate" (UPDATE)
Just days after Pharrell and Chad Hugo’s production project shared a cryptic tweet.
UPDATE (May 20, 2020): deadmau5 and The Neptunes have released their new single, “Pomegranate” featuring vocals by Pharrell. The latest track comes just months after The Neptunes announced that they’d be reuniting.
According to a press release, Joel Zimmerman, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams joined forces during a secret studio session at North Miami’s Criteria Recording Studios during Art Basel to craft this record. What resulted was the perfect melding of nostalgic R&B, just the right amount of electro-pop with hints of funk and disco throughout. “You’re making faces, probably so mad/ We’re in the ocean, waves are rolling in your eyes/ Pulses high, the heart beats/ We’re being called to the other side,” Pharrell sings.
Earlier this year Pharrell and Chad Hugo were also inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Stream “Pomegranate” and check out the original story below.
ORIGINAL STORY (May 19, 2020): Over the weekend, Pharrell and Chad Hugo’s production project The Neptunes supplied a cryptic teaser over Twitter, leaving frenzied fans curious as to what the two-piece was cooking up. Today, deadmau5 seemed to have revealed what they were working on, unveiling a collaborative single with the two by sharing the cover art for “Pomegranate.”
While The Neptunes haven’t released a project since 2003’s The Neptunes Present…Clones, hopes of a new full-length were reignited earlier this year when Hugo said they would be reuniting full-time in 2020. While no release date has been revealed for “Pomegranate,” expect it to arrive sooner than later.
Pharrell’s dipping into the electronic dance music sphere isn’t anything new for the multi-hyphenate creative. For those that remember, he’s collaborated alongside Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Gesaffelstein, and more. This isn’t the first time he’s linked up with the mau5head-rocking Canadian either — in 2013 Pharrell joined alongside the DJ and producer for one of his Coffee Run interview episodes.
