adidas NMD R1 PK Pays Homage to China's Dragon Boat Festival
With a large, colorful dragon patch on its heel.
Although it may not be the hyped behemoth it once was, adidas‘s NMD R1 PK is still an important part of the adidas Originals lineup — one that just released in a commemorative style inspired by China’s Dragon Boat Festival. With flexible Primeknit construction, lightweight build, and unique details, these NMD R1s offer an adaptable, sporty style with a touch of alternate flair.
Sock-like black uppers are built entirely of Primeknit, solid where seams would usually be placed and stripped back to a mesh-like substance in other areas for increased breathability. The forefoot and midfoot are both left unadorned, but red lines around the collar and opulent gold lace tips give an indication of what’s to come on the heel: a large, full-color dragon graphic.
This dragon is present on a large patch that’s embroidered directly onto the shoe’s rear half. Dressed in traditional reds, golds and blues, the embellishment is simultaneously elegant and imposing. Under this patch sits a branded heel tab, and below the top half is a cushy white BOOST midsole with a duo of white blocks — one plain on the heel, one equipped with a text logo on the forefoot. White outsoles complete the look.
The adidas NMD R1 PK “Dragon Boat Festival” is available now on the adidas webstore, and retails for $150 USD.
