Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with an official trailer. The title is set to take place during the ninth century “against the brutal backdrop of England’s Dark Ages,” according to a press release. The story follows a Viking raider and clan leader named Eivor, which players can choose to play as a male or female.

Eivor will also be highly customizable, as the game will introduce a selection of hair, clothing, tattoos, warpaint, and equipment. The traditional open-world gameplay from the Assassin’s Creed franchise will return and introduce new elements that build upon all the newly incorporated raiding, settlement building, and expansion mechanics.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will debut on Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X this holiday.

Ubisoft is teasing its next Assassin’s Creed title on YouTube via a multi-hour photoshop live stream alongside BossLogic, a popular fan artist turned Marvel collaborator. As of now, the image appears to be depicting Viking warriors battling in a sun-drenched field on one side and a raging storm at sea on the other side.

Between the two backgrounds is the silhouette of a warrior, most likely a Viking as well. The image getting photoshopped appears to be a Norse-esque setting, which has already been a rumored theme for the upcoming title for some time. Another Ubisoft title, The Division 2, has recently included a poster in-game that appears to feature the word “Valhalla” and someone holding the Apple of Eden, a significant item in Assassin’s Creed lore.

The most recent entry in the open-world franchise, Odyssey, depicted Greece’s Peloponnesian War while the title before that, Origins, showcased an Ancient Egypt setting. Ubisoft took a year off from in 2019 from Assassin’s Creed since becoming an annual franchise, opting to instead focus on creating new content for Odyssey.

In other gaming news, check out the Xbox Project Oris, a fan-made Xbox Series X concept.
