Run The Jewels Celebrate the Death of Income Inequality in New "Ooh La La" Music Video
Crowds take to the streets to burn money and pop bottles.
Run The Jewels have teamed back up with two hip-hop heavyweights in DJ Premier and Greg Nice for the new “Ooh LA LA” music video. Killer Mike and El-P celebrate a world in the not-so-distant future where everyone takes to the streets for a party in honor of a new post-capitalist existence.
People of all creeds, colors and backgrounds set money and credit cards a flame in a cathartic release, dance to the RTJ’s latest hit and pop bottles. There’s even an appearance from Rage Against the Machine‘s own Zack de la Rocha, who Run The Jewels had planned to go on tour with this summer before concerts and festivals were sidelined due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The video comes after the duo’s “The Yankee and the Brave” single dropped at the end of March. The group said the following about the project in a joint-statement:
“We shot this video only a few weeks before the [coronavirus] pandemic hit with no clue as to what the future held. The fact that we got the chance to do it is damn-near miraculous in hindsight. In conceptualizing the video with our friends Brian and Vanessa Beletic, we imagined the world on the day that the age old struggle of class was finally over. A day that humanity, empathy and community were victorious over the forces that would separate us based on arbitrary systems created by man.
This video is a fantasy of waking up on a day that there is no monetary system, no dividing line, no false construct to tell our fellow man that they are less or more than anyone else. Not that people are without — but that the whole meaning of money has vanished. That we have somehow solved our self-created caste system and can now start fresh with love, hope and celebration. It’s a dream of humanity’s V-DAY… and the party we know would pop off.”

There’s no word yet on an official release date of their highly anticipated album RTJ4 but they did confirm that it would drop in the near future during an interview with Rick Rubin.
