Rico Nasty Wants Your Boyfriend to Stop Hitting Her up on "Popstar"
With plenty of animations in her latest visual.
Rico Nasty‘s next full-length project, Nightmare Vacation is right around the corner. After a prime feature on Jessie Reyez’s Before Love Came to Kill Us Deluxe Version, a quick-hitting “Lightning” music video with plenty of BAPE camouflage and a Tesla and her serene and catchy “IDGAF”, Rico returns with the new visual for “Popstar.”
Directed by Jason Joyride and shot by Juug Films, the visual aesthetic harkens back to 90’s high school yearbooks with graffiti and doodle graphics pairing with her lyrics and cut-and-paste collages. The upbeat tempo was championed by producer WhoisMike.
“Your ni**a text me every time I drop/ Popstar, rockstar, popstar, rockstar,” Rico repeats on the chorus before going into her first verse. “You go and get mad and say the sh*t you don’t mean/ I go to the store and buy some sh*t I don’t need/ I see him leechin’ can you get him off me/ You can probably help if you weren’t complaining.” It’s the perfect balance of witty boasts that Rico has perfected over time and pairs well with “IDGAF” and “Lightning.”
