Watch The Free Nationals and Anderson .Paak's Second NPR Tiny Desk Concert
Alongside India Shawn and Chronixx.
The Free Nationals have yet again graced the micro stage that is NPR‘s Tiny Desk Concert after joining Anderson .Paak for his debut in 2016 (notably the most-watched edition in the series). This time around however the band returns as the leading act, enlisting .Paak, India Shawn and Chronixx to help bring to life several of the group’s Free Nationals highlights.
Shawn’s sultry singing helps kick off the live performance with the band, which consists of Jose Rios on the guitar, Ron “Tnava” Avant on the keyboard and vocoder, Kelsey Gonzales on the bass, and Callum Connor on the drums. Beginning with a take of “Beauty & Essex” — originally sung by Daniel Caesar on Free Nationals — the quintet then transitions into “On Sight,” vibing to another smooth track from the new project.
Anderson .Paak joins in after, leading a lively jam session of “Gidget” complete with a drum performance. Last but not least the band is joined by Chronixx for an intoxicating rendition of “Eternal Light,” with the reggae artist crooning an impassioned finale for the crowd. Elsewhere for the Free Nationals, the group caught up with HYPEBEAST for Streetsnaps in December to talk music and show off their personal style.
