Liam Hodges and Alfie Kungu Tap 'The Flintstones,' Butterflies and The '90s in SS20 Capsule
Bold prints and summer-ready staples appear front-and-center.
British designer Liam Hodges teamed up with the London-based artist Alfie Kungu for Spring/Summer 2020, and now the pieces that were seen on the runway are available to purchase online.
The collection is comprised of hand-painted pieces, graphic jerseys and knitwear staples, with a butterfly motif featuring throughout the capsule as a totemic symbol of rebirth. There are many notable pieces in the collaborative offering, from the Clubman Knit — a pure cotton graphic crewneck that draws influence from The Flintstones‘ stone age take on the future — to the Alife Painted Jacket, which sports flowers, faces and chain links all over the white canvas cotton base and is accompanied by a pair of matching jeans.
Elsewhere the duo presents more simplistic Butterfly Knit sweatshirts that sport collaborative logos and an embroidered motif into its design. Rounding out the collection is another standout piece, the RDP Shirt, which has been given an extensive treatment consisting of removing the black cotton with shapes of butterflies, with these components then being delicately dyed in purple and blue hues. From there, the piece is covered in white bone chain details reminiscent of ’90s silk shirts, as well as the phrase “Bone Stone Soil & Wood” in a font inspired by the leopard spots on Fred Flintstone’s tunic.
Take a look at the extravagant pieces from Alfie Kungu and Liam Hodges’ collaborative SS20 capsule collection in the gallery above. The collection can be purchased on Liam Hodges’ website now, with the first five customers receiving a free A3 painting by Kungu — like those seen above — as a thank you gift.
