Apple Is Reopening Factories in China Amidst Coronavirus
Confirmed by CEO Tim Cook himself.
Apple has reopened its factories in China following its lengthy closures due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
CEO Tim Cook confirmed the news himself during an interview with Fox Business, explaining that Apple is resuming its normal workflow after the shut down of its China factories, office and stores. “We have key components coming from the United States, we have key parts that are in China, and so forth. When you look at the parts that are done in China, we have reopened factories,” he said.
Cook also expressed his optimism over the gradual daily decline of China’s confirmed cases, “It feels to me that China is getting the coronavirus under control. I mean, if you look at the numbers, they’re coming down day by day by day. So I’m very optimistic there.”
The COVID-19 virus caused Apple to shut down production in early February, heavily affecting the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou city that manufactures a majority of the world’s iPhones. In mid-February, the tech giant announced that it was expecting an unspecified downturn in Q2 revenues, missing its original target returns of $63 billion USD to $67 billion USD. The temporary halt could also delay the release of the iPhone 12 and the rumored AirPods Pro Lite, with the latter reportedly scheduled to release mid-2020.
