ASICS GEL-Lyte III "Modern Tokyo" Pack Features Bold Colorblocking
You’ll have to scan these carefully to catch all the details.

ASICS‘ influential GEL-Lyte III is enjoying the start of its fourth decade on the market, and the latest longevity-celebrating makeups to surface are two “Modern Tokyo” styles. Inspired by Japan’s most populous city, both “Modern Tokyo” pairs boast a high level of detail and substantial material alterations — tweaks that would usually be reserved for a collaboration with A-list ASICS partners like Kiko Kostadinov, mita or Sean Wotherspoon. They’re also an apt follow-up to the bold GEL-LYTE XXX “Modern Tokyo” that popped up earlier in March.
Although the bold black-and-white colorblocking and appealing accents will certainly catch most eyes on first glance, these GEL-LYTE III’s material constructions are interesting as well. Gone is the standard sport-geared mix of a mesh base and suede overlays. In its place arrives a semi-translucent synthetic base layer and leather accents. Even the split tongue has been switched up, trading out its normal puffy construction in favor of more ultra-slim synthetics and a printed “Sound Mind, Sound Body” graphic for a salute to one of the Japanese company’s guiding principles.
On top of this stark base sit leather overlays both black and white: the former shade appears on the Tiger stripes, heel and throat, the latter graces the midfoot, eyestays and mudguard. One pair even adds pops of mint green for bright flair. Split lines and shapes are scattered around many of these parts, and use inverse colors to stand out boldly on their backgrounds. These checkout lines continue onto the GEL-filled midsole, and a final touch of detail is offered by the two-tone outsole.
The ASICS GEL-Lyte III “Modern Tokyo” pack is already available at select global stockists, and will release on Allike come March 27. The MSRP is set at $120 USD.
