Chris Rock Solves the Latest Puzzles in First ‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw’ Trailer
The reboot also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Max Minghella.
Chris Rock‘s Saw franchise reboot is just a few months away, and now the official title, along with a teaser trailer, have surfaced.
Titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the trailer first appeared earlier on popular site Reddit before officially landing on YouTube via Lionsgate. The visuals kick off with Rock’s character driving alongside fellow detective, portrayed by Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale), driving around town. Soon they are called in when an officer is reported to have been shot down. The film’s puzzling crime scenes are then revealed, and we get a first look at Rock trying to solve the puzzles to save his own life, along with the other police officers involved.
Rock previously shared with IGN “A lot of times I go to a movie or I watch a TV show and I go, ‘Wow, you know, two jokes would have made a big difference in that.’ I love Saw, but I was like ‘Wow, it has almost no humor at all.’ So, it seemed like a good place…good fertile ground…By the way, the new Saw, I’ve seen like a rough cut. It’s still Saw…it’s bloody, it’s gory, but there’s like a sprinkling of humor here and there. We’re not revamping it, it’s not Scary Movie, it’s Saw.”
The latest installment of the Saw franchise is written and executive produced by Rock himself. Darren Lynn Bousman will direct the film with the original creators Leigh Whannel and James Wan (who is also EPing Mortal Kombat) serving as executive producers as well.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw, starring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols, hits theaters May 15, 2020. Originally the film was scheduled for October 23.
