MM6 Maison Margiela Debuts The North Face Collaboration at London Fashion Week
The Fall/Winter 2020 capsule will drop in September.
Earlier this month MM6 Maison Margiela teased a collaboration with The North Face for Fall/Winter 2020, and now following its London Fashion Week show, we get a closer look at the entire collection.
Debuted alongside both mens and womenswear pieces, the MM6 Maison Margiela x The North Face collaboration introduced a new take on the outerwear brand’s Expedition System garments, offering up padded circle coats, jackets, a top and dress. TNF’s archival Expedition System was introduced in 1990 as a series of detachable, layered pieces designed for extreme weather conditions, with MM6 Maison Margiela deconstructing and then reconstructing this with a design focus on its circle motif.
As a result, the Parisian label presents garments sporting a bright palette of cobalt, violet, bottle green, sun yellow and safety orange that take form on TNF’s performance textiles. Pieces such as the hooded Himalayan Coat, the cape-style Mountain Kaban, and the compact Nuptse puffer jacket are each made using recycled down insulation, while the iconic Denali jacket has been reworked to appear as both a dress and a sweater.
Furthermore, MM6 Maison Margiela and The North Face developed an original zipper system that allows pieces such as the Denali and Nuptse to be integrated into the Mountain Kaban, and finished each garment with MM6’s magnified numbers motif adjacent to the TNF branding.
MM6 Maison Margiela also integrates some of its heritage design in the form of tabi-split thumbs on a pair of alpine mittens, while the padded Nuptse scarf comes equipped with dual pockets and a loop fastening system, channeling the label’s avant-garde approach.
Aside from its collaboration with The North Face, MM6 Maison Margiela showcased a bright orange suit complete with split-hem trousers, animal-print knitwear, fringed leather jackets and a collaboration with eyewear label Mykita. Take a look at the MMG Maison Margiela LFW FW20 show in the gallery above, and expect its collaboration with The North Face to drop in selected
multibrand stores, in key MM6 and The North Face flagship stores, and online from September 2020.
In other news, Reebok has teamed up with Kohei Okita for another collaboration.
