Last year, Disney released the highly anticipated The Mandalorian series, and the Star Wars live-action series took the Internet by storm, with fans hailing the show as one of the franchise’s best releases for years, no doubt becoming a large force behind Disney+‘s 28 million subscriber mark. Now, with its second season still in the works and coming at the end of this year, the studio has released a new behind-the-scenes look at the series’ production, giving fans a glimpse of a new technology used in the show’s filming.

As The Mandalorian‘s creator and executive producer Jon Favreau explains, a massive bulk of the show was shot using a new technique based around a video game engine, which allows combines real-time renderings with video wall technology to create breathtaking backdrops for its scenes. The entire screen is 21 feet tall and 75 in diameter and uses seven different machines to project the backdrop onto the wall, which was created in pre-production. With such a setup, the film crew was able to manipulate various terrains instantly, change locations from all over the world all within the same day, and even shoot a 10-hour dawn scene.

The Mandalorian season 2 will release in October. For the time being, check out the video above.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Train to Busan‘s follow-up Peninsula will be set in the same world, but four years later.
