These Are the Best Super Bowl LIV Commercials
Filled with celebrity cameos, tearjerkers and catchy taglines.
Although the highlight of Super Bowl LIV was seeing the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers at the football championship in Miami, coming in a close second were all the commercials shown during the game.
2020’s offerings saw an abundance of celebrity cameos, such as Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Maisie Williams, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Lil Nas X and Post Malone, while the entertainment world dropped a few new clips and teasers for its upcoming projects. Most notably, Disney+ gave fans its first real look at its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe shows such as Falcon and Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki, and we also saw the final trailer for the live-action Mulan. The Super Bowl also gave fans another glimpse at clips from Fast & Furious 9, Die Another Day and Black Widow.
An estimated 100 million viewers, including both sports fans and non-sports fans alike, tuned into the big game to catch some of the most-talked about, political, and outlandish ads. It’s reported that advertisers shelled out around $5.6 million USD for a 30-second spot during Super Bowl LIV.

Jeep – “Groundhog Day” Starring Bill Murray
OG Bill Murray appears in his first-ever nationally-televised commercial for Jeep. Acting as a Groundhog Day spoof — which also happened to air on Groundhog’s Day — the spot sees Murray reunited with his co-star Stephen Tobolowsky.
Doritos – “The Cool Ranch” Starring Lil Nas X & Sam Elliott
Lil Nas X’s hit record “Old Town Road” can be heard in the commercial’s backdrop, which sees the award winning rapper squaring off with Sam Elliott in a cowboy show down.
Genesis – “Going Away Party” Starring John Legend & Chrissy Teigen
Real life couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen were tapped to sell Genesis’ new automobile, which includes a witty nod to Legend being named the “sexiest man alive.” The commercial originally saw the couple riding in a helicopter, but to honor the late Kobe Bryant, the scene was edited out.
Hyundai Sonata – “Smaht Pahk” Starring Chris Evans & John Krasinski
Chris Evans, John Krasinski and Rachel Dratch — all Massachusetts natives — go full Boston in Hyundai Sonata’s genuinely funny “Smaht Pahk” ad. There’s even a surprise cameo from Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, aka “Big Papi.”
Mountain Dew – “The Shining” Starring Bryan Cranston
Bryan Cranston and Tracee Ellis Ross bring the horror for Mountain Dew in this The Shining-inspired ad. Running with the tagline “as good as the original,” Mountain Dew creates a shot-for-shot remake of an iconic scene from the ’80s hit film.
Planters – “Road Trip” & “Tribute”
After teasing plans to kill off mascot Mr. Peanut, Planters introduced a baby version, which could easily rival The Mandalorian’s Baby Yoda.
Bud Light- “#PostyStore” Starring Post Malone
Bud Light goes inside Post Malone’s brain, where his inner voices fight over drinking Bud Light Seltzer.
Hard Rock – “Big Game” Starring JLo, A-Rod, DJ Khaled, Pitbull & Steven Van Zandt
Hard Rock tapped Michael Bay to direct this star-studded, action-packed commercial, which sees J. Lo joined by a number of other celebrities.
Rocket Mortgage Starring Jason Momoa
Known for his roles as the superhero Aquaman and Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa pokes fun at himself in Rocket Mortgage’s ad. After returning to the comforts of his own home, Momoa reveals a slightly different physique than we’re used to seeing.
Cheetos – “Can’t Touch This”
Cheetos offers up some ’80s nostalgia as hip-hop legend MC Hammer appears throughout the ad to remind us that our Cheeto hands “can’t touch this.”
Pringles – Rick and Morty Commercial
Adult Swim’s hit series Rick & Morty were tasked in introducing Pringles’ new chip flavor in this hilarious ad. Once again offering up his meta, fourth-wall-breaking antics, Rick exposes Morty to be a robot and discovers they are trapped inside a commercial.
Avocados from Mexico – “Avocados From Mexico” Starring Molly Ringwald
A funny play on millennial’s obsession with avocados, this spot also stars ’80s it girl, Molly Ringwald.
Tide – “Wonder Woman” Starring Charlie Day
Tide aired a series of commercials weaving into one storyline which spotlights actor Charlie Day interacting with Wonder Woman and the Bud Light Knight as he keeps putting off cleaning his laundry.
Pepsi – “Zero Sugar. Done Right” Starring Missy Elliott & H.E.R
Pepsi’s music video-inspired advertisement stars legend Missy Elliott and GRAMMY Award-winner H.E.R. performing an original track for the soft drink manufacturer.

Footwear brand Saucony took this opportunity to highlight its first biodegradable shoe, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi appear together in this Amazon where they wonder what people did before Alexa.
NFL – “Next 100” Starring Maxwell “Bunchie” Young

Google – “Loretta”
Google shared a heartwarming ad about an aging employee who uses the company’s technology to remember his late wife. You’ll want tissues for this one.
Squarespace – “Winona in Winona” Starring Winona Ryder
This Fargo-esque spot features Winona Ryder in Winona, Minnesota, where the actress was born, for a witty take on the pairing.
Snickers – “#SnickersFixtheWorld”
Snickers attempts to save the world with a giant candy bar. The commercial features a catchy original song, while touching upon a serious sentiment in a quirky way. The ad is also a tongue-in-cheek homage to Coca-Cola’s classic “Hilltop” commercial which was featured in the last episode of Mad Men.

Playing on the slogan “out-of-this-world convenience,” the retail giant weaves together familiar sci-fi film scenes that includes appearances from Buzz Lightyear to C-3PO and R2-D2.

Facebook made its Super Bowl debut with an ad starring Chris Rock. The Super Bowl ad is part of Facebook’s year-round “More Together” campaign, which encourages Facebook users to connect in groups about their various interests and experiences.
PETA – “Don’t Stand for Injustice”
PETA’s controversial Colin Kaepernick-inspired ad showcases a variety of endangered species taking a knee in protest of poor treatment by humans. Unfortunately, the NFL pressured Fox Sports to not air the ad during the championship game.
