Air Jordan 5 Low Transforms Into a Golf Shoe
Teeing off in a recognizable “Fire Red” colorway.
Jordan Brand has added another model to its ever-growing golf footwear lineup: the Air Jordan 5 Low Golf “Fire Red.” The Jumpman has been making inroads on the world of performance golf gear over the past few years with spike-equipped takes on silhouettes like the Air Jordan 11 Low and Air Jordan 3, but this marks the first time the Air Jordan 5 Low has been remade for the links instead of the court or the streets.
Any fan of Air Jordan 5s is undeniably familiar with the “Fire Red” colorway, a mixture of a crisp white leather upper with bright red detailing/branded accents, colorless midfoot mesh netting, clear and red lace toggles, black and red P51 Mustang-inspired midsoles and icy blue translucent outsoles. Here, the recognizable scheme is presented with a hi-vis reflective metallic silver tongue. This is one of two original “Fire Red” styles — the other features a black synthetic tongue and Michael Jordan‘s #23 stamped on the heel.
This faithful re-creation of a classic is then altered for the golf course by way of 7 circular black spikes on the bottom of each foot. These provide sport-specific grip, juxtaposing golf’s necessary traction with the AJ5’s basketball-specific cushioning setup.
Michael Jordan’s passion for golf — and propensity to gamble sizable sums while playing — is well-known, so the Air Jordan 5 Low Golf “Fire Red” will expand the G.O.A.T’s legacy on the links when it hits the Nike webstore for $220 USD come February 28.
