'The Prince of Tennis' Shows Off New Teaser for Upcoming CG Feature Film
A fully original story taking place between the franchise’s two manga series.
The Prince of Tennis just dropped the first teaser trailer for its upcoming CG feature film at Jump Festa ‘21.
Titled Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama (Ryōma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis), the upcoming film features an all-new original story following the events of what took place between The prince of Tennis and The New Prince of Tennis manga. The franchise’s original creator Takeshi Konomi is back to supervise the project, while Hunter x Hunter‘s Hiroshi Koujina has been tapped as director. Lupin III: Goodbye Partner‘s Takehiko Hata will pen the script, and Patricia Hishikawa and Momoko Yamada will work on the CG team.
For those unfamiliar, The Prince of Tennis ran on Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 1999 and 2008, and followed a middle school tennis prodigy named Ryōma Echizen as he fought his way up against various opponents to ultimately reach nationals. The manga went on to inspire a series of spin-offs and adaptations, including a televised anime between 2001 to 2005, two feature films, a live-action movie, and even a live-action TV series in China.
Ryōma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis will premiere in Japan September 3, 2021.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Netflix has just announced the addition of Kuroko’s Basketball.
