Riot Games has just released numbers for its League of Legends 2020 World Championships Final from two months ago, and they’re looking pretty staggering. The finals that were held in Shanghai’s SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, which had a live audience of over 6,000 people, set a new record of close to 45.9M online viewers at its peak.

Riot Games delivered the data to Stream Hatchet to analyze the numbers. Hatchet reported an “Average Minute Audience” of roughly 23M and 46M “Peak Concurrent Viewers.” The report also indicated that there were at least over 1B hours of competition watched over the course of the tournament. “What the esports team at Riot Games achieved this year continues to set the standard for cultivating massive audiences in esports and entertainment,” mentioned Stream Hatchet’s CEO Eduard Montserrat in a statement. “This year, for example, esports watch time on Western streaming platforms increased by 10 percent, with leagues and tournaments organized by the Riot Esports team accounting for one-third of the watch time.” Riot Games’ Worlds is now among the most-watched sporting events in the world. So far, Worlds has been broadcasted across 21 platforms in 16 different languages.
