The PUMA Suede is no stranger to a luxury rework, having been transformed with a super-limited made-in-Italy run, appearing in lush suede courtesy of Footpatrol, and having sported a Swarovski update in recent years. Now, the seminal sneaker has been given a made-in-Japan makeover, comprising an upper made from luxury materials that have been handled and executed with unrivaled amounts of expertise and precision.

Since its launch in 1968, the PUMA Suede has played a pivotal part in various subcultures and cultural moments. As a result, the sneaker often serves as the base for homages to its legacy, referencing the likes of Tommie Smith who wore these during his protest at the 1968 Olympics as well as New York City’s B-Boys in the ’80s.

For the MIJ version, PUMA crafts the sneakers from premium suede and leather. Available in either “Puma Black” or “Quarry,” the Suede is finished with a silver leather mid-panel stripe motif alongside silver foil-stamped PUMA branding on the lateral. More PUMA branding can be found on the tongue, while silver leather has been used once more for the PUMA cat heel tab on both colorways.

A signature crisp white sole unit is rounded off with PUMA branding embossed into the heel. Take a look at the PUMA Suede VTG made-in-Japan above, and pick up both pairs from stockists such as 43einhalb when they drop on December 15. The sneakers will cost €179.95 EUR (approx. $218 USD) each.

In other news, here are this week’s best footwear drops.
