The Detroit Pistons have just announced that six-time Grammy-nominated hip hop artist, Big Sean will join the organization as its new Creative Director of Innovation.
Sean is expected to provide counsel to the team’s cultural aesthetic through re-invigorating in-game experiences, merchandise design, and supporting local communities. To kick off the partnership and the new NBA 2020-2021 season, Big Sean had his Don Life logo added to the Pistons’ practice jersey.
Detroit-raised, Sean’s role with the Pistons brings back nostalgic memories for the artist. Having started out as a fan of the franchise, specifically during the Bad Boys era and watching the Pistons win a championship in 2004, Sean plans to draw from the emotions from those unforgettable moments to creatively contribute to the legacy of the league. “It’s a dream come true and a real honor to get to work with the iconic Detroit Pistons,” said Big Sean. Evident that this is more than just a passion project for him, Sean promises that the role is not just about redesigning jerseys. Central to the partnership is the Pistons and the Sean Anderson Foundation’s pledge to work together in utilizing the Pistons’ platform to focus on social responsibility through giving back to Sean’s hometown and inspiring the city.
With his new role, Sean hopes to blend his creative visions with the NBA team and push for a continued dedication to the community through both the arts and sports. Especially with the Pistons’ newly launched D-Up brand campaign, aimed at celebrating the city and highlighting its people, Sean is considered to be a natural fit for the organization. Detroit Pistons’ Chief Business Officer Mike Zavodsky doubles down on their excitement for Sean stating, “Big Sean embodies everything the Pistons organization and our D-Up campaign is about – creativity, hard work, and the people of Detroit. Big Sean and the Pistons are both a part of the fabric of Detroit, and we look forward to this partnership reflecting the culture of the city we both call home”.
