According to reports, Spike Lee is set to develop a movie musical about the creators of popular erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra. The Entertainment One film will be based on David Kushner’s Esquire article “All Rise: The Untold Story of the Guys Who Launched Viagra.

Patented in 1996, the Pfizer drug was approved for use in erectile dysfunction by the FDA March 27, 1998 making it the first oral treatment approved to treat erectile dysfunction in the United States. Originally developed to remedy hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a symptom of ischaemic heart disease), Viagra is now the leading name in treating male sexual dysfunction.

To be written by Kwame Kwei-Armah, the film will feature original songs written by the duo behind Tony-winning musical, Passing Strange, Stew Stewart and Heidi Rodewald. Produced by Matt Jackson’s Jackson Pictures, 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks, Joanne Lee of Jackson Pictures and Kushner will serve as executive producers.
