Sony Announces the PlayStation 5 Will Not Be Available In-Store on Launch Day
“Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”

With the Playstation 5 launch nearly upon us, Sony has confirmed today there will be no in-store consoles available on either regional launch date, November 12 or November 19. Consoles will be available exclusively online through Sony’s retail partners.
Sony explained in a statement that the decision was made in the interest of keeping store employees and customers safe from unnecessary exposure to COVID-19. “Please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase,” said Sid Shuman, Sony’s Senior Director, SIE Content Communications. “Be safe, stay home and place your order online.”
However, those who have placed a pre-order for pickup should still be able to receive their console, and Sony suggests confirming safety protocols and other details with their respective retailers.

Update: All PS5 console sales on launch day, November 12 or November 19 depending on your region, will be online-only. No units will be available in-store for purchase.
