Bandcamp Launches Ticketed Livestreaming Service

Bandcamp has officially announced its newest service Bandcamp Live, a ticketed livestreaming service ready for artists.

The platform is fully integrated with the rest of Bandcamp and allows musicians to easily perform and connect with their fans. Bandcamp Live also provides a new way for listeners to directly support the artist, with the platform automatically notifying them when one of their favourite artists announces a show. Artists can also sell their music and merchandise during their livestream via a virtual merch table, and Bandcamp Live will have an optional chat box that will detail the sales made during the show.

Artists will be able to set the ticket price of each show and a 10 percent fee will paid to Bandcamp, but the fee is waived until March 31, 2021.

Bandcamp Live is the platform’s newest initiative to continue providing even a small source of income for musicians. Earlier this year, the company launched Bandcamp Fridays, a monthly one-day event where it waives its revenue share and allows 100 percent of the purchases to go directly to the artist.

The social distancing restrictions of COVID-19 has caused many independent musicians to lose income from in-person shows, forcing them to rely on paid livestreamed events. HYPEBEAST previously spoke to a number of independent music industry figures about the effects of the pandemic, and the interview revealed that livestreamed gigs do not generate the same amount of revenue as in-person shows.

Elsewhere in music, Travis Scott, Post Malone and A$AP Rocky will be headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2021.
