Subaru Builds Hoonigan Gymkhana a Raw Carbon Fiber-Bodied, Flame-Spitting WRX STI

To be driven by Travis Pastrana.

Subaru is aiming to take Hoonigan‘s Gymkhana to another level with its all-new one-off WRX STI that has been built for the Subaru Motorsports USA driver Travis Pastrana.

Pastrana will be behind the wheel of this carbon fiber widebodied WRX STI in the latest installment of Gymkhana, in which he’ll be ripping the car around a course at incredible speeds. Plenty of precision from the driver is needed for this challenge, and this has been assisted by the custom body kit on this Subaru that was modeled aerodynamically in a wind tunnel.

The result is a WRX STI that’s re-made entirely from carbon fiber, sporting vents, dips, cut-outs, wings, flares, skirts, and so much more to give the car a truly custom look. This is paired with a custom-built Boxer engine that produces an undisclosed amount of power, although it can be presumed that numbers are astronomically high given how easily the Subaru tears up the Gymkhana course in the test run.

Elsewhere around the car, you’ll find a flame-spitting hood exit exhaust, long-travel suspension, and a race-ready interior built to Pastrana’s specs. Speaking on the car, Pastrana said, “This STI is unbelievable! We’ve never had the opportunity to do this before, to build a car with no restrictions. Engine, suspension, aero — everything is unlimited, clean sheet. It’s crazy fast, easy to control and get sideways and it was perfect out of the box in testing. Gymkhana is a new challenge for me but I want to raise the bar, and this is the car to do it.”

You can take a closer look at the car above, and watch it in action above, too.
