In celebration of the 50th anniversary of OMEGA receiving the Silver Snoopy Award from NASA for its outstanding work for the Apollo 13 mission, the Swiss luxury watchmaker is revisiting the charmed cartoon beagle for a third Speedmaster iteration, this time opting for a general release instead of a limited edition to its fans’ delight.
Reminiscent of Blue Speedy ref. 2998, the watch comes in a 42mm stainless steel case with a blue-accented bezel, matching the three subdials on the clean silver dial. Much like previous versions, you’ll find astronaut Snoopy sitting comfortably within the subdial at 9 o’clock, with “50TH ANNIVERSARY” emblazoned above him.
Even more special, perhaps, is the timepiece’s caseback, opening to a view of the Moon in the foreground, behind which you’ll find our little blue planet, as Snoopy sails across the starry space inside a white Command and Service Module. Impressively, the Earth’s disc revolves once every minute in tandem with the small seconds hand on the dial to imitate our home planet’s rotation, while Snoopy and his little space ship will travel round the far side of the Moon when the chronograph function is engaged, replicating the Apollo 13’s mission.
Available this fall, OMEGA’s new Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary edition will retail for $9,600 USD. Head over to the watchmaker‘s website to learn more.
