'HOOD BREATHES AIR' Book Explores Hood By Air's Glory Years

Shayne Oliver‘s Hood By Air returned earlier this year, bouncing back into the scene with a new focus on collaboration, brand integrity, and visibility for Black and queer creatives. Now, the renowned label has been celebrated in a new book titled HOOD BREATHES AIR, written by the artist and casting director Aton Ibe Crawley.
HOOD BREATHES AIR spotlights a series of collections that come from the brand’s peak period in the 2010s, and looks to tell the backstory of Hood By Air, too. Alongside this are images from the brand’s backstage moments, casting calls, runways, and what Crawley has titled, “The Inbetweens.”
It tells of an era when Crawley helped Hood By Air develop some of its most impressive collections and presentations. Crawley says, “I’ve always wanted to publish my work since I started taking pictures in 2013. I don’t just see and share my work… I wanted to connect [to people] on a personal level, and I wanted them to feel like they were at the moment the photo was taken.”
