Aesop's New Aromatique Candles Evoke Ancient Astronomy and Mythologies
Rethinking the candle like it is a star in the night sky.

Aesop has entered the world of candles, introducing the Aromatique line featuring three new scents, “Aganice,” “Callippus,” and “Ptolemy.”
The Aromatique candle line has been developed in collaboration with Barnabé Fillion, who frequently works alongside Aesop to develop new products. Each candle takes its name from an astronomer of ancient astronomy and associated mythologies, tapping into the notion that candles at night are like stars in the sky.
By combining science with curiosity, Aesop has been able to develop florals and spice in “Aganice,” woody green notes in “Callippus,” and earthiness in “Ptolemy.” The first is floral, spicy, fresh, and has an undertone of tobacco, making it a perfect scent as we transition from summer into fall.
“Callippus” combines frankincense, guaiac wood, and bright notes of shiso, all while drawing influence from a Greek astronomer and mathematician who refined the planetary theory of his time. Together, the scent is relaxing, perfect for thought-provoking moments alone.
Last is “Ptolemy,” which thanks to its blend of cedar, cypress and notes of vetiver evokes an idea of overgrown forests, featuring alongside the light smokiness that is meant to interpret how the moon might smell.
Aesop and Barnabé Fillion have created not just candles, but moments to remember through scent. Take a look at the products above, and purchase all three of the Aesop Aromatique candles on Aesop’s website now, or in stores worldwide, for £80 GBP apiece (approx. $100 USD).
