Memphis rap legend Yo Gotti is finally ready to release his anticipated Untrapped project after nearly two years of waiting with his latest single “More Ready Than Ever.” The 38-year-old returns with passion, honing his nearly quarter-century in the industry for a triumphant culmination that sees self-reflective, ambitious and aspirational flows over some classic early-2000s chipmunk soul with a modern twist.

Yo Gotti wrapped up last year with the Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Uzi Vert collaboration, “Pose”, and then late last week surprised the hip-hop world with a new music video for “H.O.E. (Heaven On Earth)”. The fully realized offering saw Gotti take to the Presidential press pool behind a Jeezy-era black and white American flag, head adorned with a red MAGA-parodying hat that read ‘Make The Hood Great Again.’ The track paid tribute to Memphis drum lines with heavy trap influence and prolific use of a tuba riff.

On “More Ready Than Ever” Yo Gotti hints at independent aspirations after going through the major label system, preaches patience over dropping consistent new music to stay relevant and more. “I ain’t ready for that $100 mil but now I am/ Never been more ready for war/ But then that gun jammed/ I guess God wasn’t ready for ‘em (Yea you blessed n*gga)/ (He wasn’t ready for you h**)/ I was born ready/ Since a child I was grown/ I’m just me and I ain’t got no respect for a goon/ Why not? Cause real killers kill by who they love/ You got bricks in ‘94 with the split/ You my plug n*gga/ How many of you n*ggas really know Mexicans/ You shoot your Draco in the crowd, kill pedestrians/ Look at you, you n*ggas ain’t really killers/ By the time it took to get you, you crying all in your feelings.”

Stream his latest “More Ready Than Ever,” and be on the lookout for Untrapped to finally release on Friday, January 31. In more music news, be on the lookout for Gorillaz to return with a new collaboration featuring slowthai and Slaves tomorrow.
