Sies Marjan FW20 Delivers Both Luxurious Tailoring and Louche Sweatsuits
Restrained styling reels in the premium fabrics and generous cuts.
Creative director Sander Lak has never shied away from expressive menswear, with his designs for Sies Marjan often injecting both drama and delicacy into the line. For Fall/Winter 2020, accessible items mesh with progressive layering pieces, juxtaposing bold textiles and androgynous cuts with recognizable shapes and items.
Double-breasted suits are executed in baby blue and MC Escher-like grid patterns, complementing the boxy blazers with pooling straight-legged or pressed and cropped slacks in matching fabrics. Raw-hemmed and contrast-stitched sweatsuits upset the splendor of the suits with street-savvy grit, offering bold yellow and oatmeal mélange as a suitable partner to the star of the slouchy show: an intricately-knit cardigan and pant set, complete with self-belt. Short puffer jackets, generous mac coats and leather trench coats lent a mature counterpoint to the loungier options, tying in with the quiet quirk of knee-length shirting and velvet pullovers.
Elsewhere at Paris Fashion Week, we caught up with the likes of Maison Mihara Yasuhiro and WHO DECIDES WAR, along with the CFDA-affiliated Reese Cooper and BODE.
