Take a First Look at the 'Magic: The Gathering' MMORPG Gameplay
It’ll be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Roughly a month after its announcement during The Game Awards 2019, Magic: The Gathering‘s upcoming MMORPG has just dropped its first gameplay trailer, offering fans of the franchise a look at what’s in store.
Titled Magic: Legends, the game is being developed by Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios, two companies that are no strangers to the genre. This first gameplay trailer draws from pre-alpha, work-in-progress footage of the upcoming title, and features two Planeswalker classes available to players: the Mind Mage and Geomancer. Shown above, the video puts these two characters in an array of treacherous terrains and environments, fending off various beasts and monsters by casting vibrant spells. Given the RTS-like third-person view and the level designs, it’s hard not to draw similarities with Blizzard’s Diablo 3, but with an added MMO dimension.
“It’s an incredible time to be a Magic: The Gathering fan,” said Perfect World Entertainment CEO Yoon Im during the game’s announcement last year. “As huge fans ourselves, we are excited to once again collaborate with Wizards of the Coast. With its rich, immersive worlds and satisfying spellcasting system, Magic creates the perfect setting for an MMO action RPG spun into an epic fantasy adventure that players will want to continue exploring for years to come.”
There’s currently no release date for Magic: Legends, but it will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, so expect the game’s release some time soon before the release of next-gen consoles.
