Heritage British imprint Sunspel has teamed up with 45R, N.HOOLYWOOD and BEAMS to celebrate its long-standing friendship with Japan, reimaging a selection of everyday staples with craftsmanship and detail in mind.

Sunspel’s relationship with Japan started in the ’60s when a Japanese businessman forgot to pack underwear on his trip to London. From there, the businessman visited Harrods and found Sunspel’s luxury basics, and once back in Tokyo, wrote to Sunspel aksing if he could import its pieces. Today, the British label has five stores spread across Toyko, Nagoya and Osaka.

In celebration of this legacy, Sunspel enlisted 45R, N.HOOLYWOOD and BEAMS to rework a number of its core pieces. 45R pays respect to Sunspel’s 160th birthday with a series of garments (such as T-shirts and a scarf) made in Japan from long-staple cotton jersey, featuring reinterpretations of the brand’s classic 1930s “Sun & Clouds” logo and a hand-drawn lace stitch pattern from the Sunspel archives.

N.HOOLYWOOD has taken one of Sunspel’s core jersey and reimagined it with a relaxed, oversized fit with signature raw-cut detailing. It also produced a T-shirt that has wide raw seams and pocket details, a twisted neck, and can be turned inside out to show off the external branding.

Rounding out the celebratory collaboration is BEAMS’ effort, which introduces the “perfect year-round T-shirt” made from a winter-weight cotton jersey. Both BEAMS and N.HOOLYWOOD’s pieces are made in the UK at the label’s Long Eaton factory.

Take a look at the entire collection in the gallery above, and be sure to pick up your favorite pieces when they drop on March 7 at Sunspel boutiques and Sunspel’s online store. Prices start from £65 GBP (approx. $85 USD).
