Billie Eilish Condemns 'NYLON Germany' For Hairless & Shirtless Cover Image
“Youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17?”
NYLON Germany recently shared its latest cover featuring Billie Eilish, but it didn’t sit too well with the artist herself. Pegged as part of its “digital prodigies” series, the cover (which can be viewed here) featured a CGI’d version of the star, which showcased a shirtless and bald version of Eilish (who is currently 17). The cover, designed by Marcel C. Wilkens, led to the the star taking to the magazine’s comment section on Instagram to call out the magazine’s tactics. “I was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever,” Eilish wrote, claiming that she had “no creative input.”
The breakout singer-songwriter was equally irritated with the “shirtless” aspect of the cover, taking issue with it due to her not consenting to the creative direction and especially due to the fact that she is currently underage. You can read her full comments below:
What the f*ck is this sh*t.
1. i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team.
2. this is not even a real picture of me. i had absolutely no creative input.
3. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me … i did not consent in any way.
4. ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY F*CKIN HAIR? booooooooooo to you.
NYLON Germany deleted the comment after issuing their own statement:
For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish. It was only ever our intention to honor Billie’s impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists. This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe — including us.
